Manihi
16.7 miles of 4.9 miles, 769 persons.

The atoll of Manihi is located at 146° west longitude and 14°27’ south latitude in the northwestern part of the Tuamotu Archipelago. It is 500 kilometers (311 miles) northeast of Papeete.
The clear lagoon measures an average 8 kilometers wide by 27 kilometers long and is the home for several Tahiti cultured pearl farms. The deep, navigable Tairapa pass through the coral reef is located to the extreme southwest next to the village of Paeua. The pass has a depth of 60 meters (197 ft.) except at the end, where a straight passage was dug to allow supply ships to enter the lagoon.
The circumference of the atoll is dense with coconut palm trees. The many openings in the coral reef surrounding the atoll are big enough to create strong currents during heavy swells.
Manihi’s exposed land covers 1,300 hectares (3,212 acres) that is divided up into 114 groups. The main village is at the entrance to the pass and is 2.8 kilometers (1.7 miles) from the airport. The village has three main roads and it is located on the Paeua motu, which is 1.3 kilometers (0.8 mile) long and an average 200 meters (656 ft.) wide. One of the roads leaves the village and runs the length of the motu.
